Not too playful by itself, but insane with Eight-and-a-Half-Tails.
Then it's like Erayo's Essence with an upkeep cost of 1 and 1 life.
If you can manage to untap it or get this creature multiple times on your side, you'll be able to counter pretty much everything. In a white-black colored deck, notably.

excellent thorn in the side...
and eight-and-a-half-tails is simply top quality, you'll find it works well with tons of cards/deck themes.

This works well with Painter's Servant.

This is what I call a great Side Board card.

With Eight-and-a-Half Tails, awesome, sure, but one thing that hasn't been mentioned is the particular types of spells that one would typically want to counter, and whether they are white by themselves. Most obvious are sweeper spells, like Wrath of God and Planar Cleansing, though of course, some exist in every color. To a lesser extent life gain is most often white, and the most annoying cards of that theme certianly are, like Beacon of Immortality and Felidar Sovereign. But most importantly, exile removal is white, like Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile. Throw out this kind of removal, and regeneration starts to become very attractive. Most creature based decks don't like sweepers and life-gain, and a lot of black creature decks have some sort of regeneration. Whether you actually activate this or not, that kind of deck could sometimes afford to run a 3 mana 2/2 with no abilities in a context where they are guaranteed not to see sweepers and exile removal.

Given this, it's not unheard of that a deck would play this main-deck, especially if is running a Knights subtheme. Also, this is going to be very good in multiplayer a lot of the time. I give it 4.5/5 for being insane against one color, and still not bad blind, unlike the Paladins.
