Because cheap spells like Terror and Terminate just weren't good enough.

Terror doesn't kill indestructible creatures, and this does. 5-color Control is probably the only real way to play this though.

This card is kinda terrible unless you're going prismatic.

If one WAS to play a 5 color deck, this card is actually very good, giving you a strong removal spell that can smoke anything up to 5 toughness, even indestructable creatures.

That having been said, obviously limited in scope.

Domain is one of my least favorite game mechanics.

I never liked Domain, either.

It seems nearly every Domain card is only useful for its cost when you hit 3 types of basic land... by which point you're probably packing a large number of non-basic lands to handle the unstable mana base of a 3 color deck. Rather self-defeating, IMHO.

Domain made such amazing comeback with Conflux. Compare to something like Tribal Flames and you can maybe see how this is more than just a fresh coat of paint.

Works against all colors, artifact creatures, and indestructible, in addition to debuffing power right next to toughness, letting your creatures finish the job at little risk.

I think it is nice how Wizards took a mechanic that was loved from Invasion Block and brought it back in Conflux and made everyone hate it for its unplayability.

Use Dismember instead, unless one day they make a sixth color.
