A subtle thing I like about this card is that helps teach newer players that they're better off playing spells after combat. You can attack with it and still use the mana from it on your main phase, but only by doing things in the sequence that's usually optimal anyway, not by doing them the "obvious" way.

A 2/2 mana producer with vigilance is something that green players with L. Elves have been dreaming of for a long time. And when it comes at such a low cost it is great for early game to deal damage and bring out other spells. Good for combinations and I'm surprised I haven't seen many people use him.

And you all forgot to mention the awesome art this card has. As far as I'm concerned, he is one of the most interesting, and cool-looking cards of all times, in terms of art. Then throw in the cheap cost, the decent power, and the excellent abilities for a turn-two card, and he's just amazing. Definitely a 5 out of 5.

I think the point is that you can attack with him and, if he survives, still use his ability.
Also, if 27 people (current vote count number for this card) say he's a 4.5 then he's probably a pretty stinking good card.

He is not amazing, but he is rock solid. Nothin bad about this dude, his only weakness is that there are more ridiculous cards than him.

Very elegant combination of two common abilities.

I can't believe this card exists. The way it works is completely illogical and it makes the rules seem like nonsense. You can attack with him, then tap him for mana, play a buff such as Barkshell Blessing, and hit twice as hard as he normally would. Its ridiculous that you can attack with him, then use his ability, then use the results of his ability to play a spell, all in the combat phase. If he is attacking he shouldn't be able to TAP FOR MANA until after the damage is dealt, because, again, he is ATTACKING. Its a good card if sense and reasoning dont mean anything.

Man, Greg Staples is a beast.
Anyway, I was wrong about this card. It's excellent.

This can attack AND tap for mana in the same round. It's a fantastic creature any way you slice it. It's hard to get more value than this for just WG. Some people would argue Watchwolf. They may be right. But there are still plenty of reasons to play this instead, and if a card is a viable alternative to something like Watchwolf, then it's definitely fantastic.
I am truly shocked that this design wasn't implemented during either Invasion or Ravnica blocks.

It's not a strong card, but it's very interesting design. One thing that I really like with the synergy of its abilities is teaching newer players about casting spells after combat. To get maximum value, assuming this thing doesn't die when it swings in, you attack and then tap it for mana post-combat.
