You let slip to your opponent how many counter spells you have in your hand if you use this, but as long as you don't show every single card in your hand you might keep them guessing.

This is actually better than Counterspell, considering that you're probably running mono-blue anyway.

I think counterspell is much better than this, if you are running mono-blue you should have no problem with the UU cost and counterspell is a hard counter. What if your opponent casts pelakka wurm or rakdos the defiler and they still have 1 or 2 or even 3 mana left over? You will probably still have to deal with what they cast.

I hope land_comment is just trolling. The only advantage that Scent of Brine has over Counterspell is that Scent of Brine is more splashable, but that advantage is moot if you're running mono-blue. They're the same converted mana cost and Counterspell is a hard counter while this is a soft counter. Counterspell is undeniably better in a mono-blue deck.

Opponent: I tap out and cast Darksteel Colossus. Eat it.
You: Smell that? *fan blue cards at opponent*
Opponent: *sniff* wait, NOOOOOOOO, MY COLOSSUS!!!
*colossus fizzles*

It's an ok card if your hand has like 4 or 5 blue cards in it. But then you're revealing your hand. . . Just play Rune Snag.

lol sounds like a conversation with my mom and me as a kid and I asked for something.

Opponent: Can I play my card?
Me: *plays this card* Maybe.
Scenario 1
Opponent: *does something extra*
Me: Okay.
Scenario 2
Opponent: *does noting* I thought you said I could!
Me: No, I said maybe.

To everyone who keeps saying "Counterspell is so much better for mono-blue!" well no shit, Counterspell is overpowered as hell. But this has one advantage over Counterspell:

Multicolor. Doi!

Pretty weak card. If your blue heavy just run counterspell? If your not blue heavy go for mana leak.

I think it's funny that everyone is mentioning that this card's advantage over Counterspell is that it's more splashable. The thing is, it needs blue cards in your hand... at least 4 to be better than mana leak. Do you honestly think that's the type of thing to happen in anything other than a mono-blue deck, though?
