Subtly different from Brainstorm but good. Very good. Somewhere in between Index and Brainstorm, but closer to the latter.

because you have to do something first turn.

best blue one-drop.
you get a card, can set up your next two turns, or shuffle your library if needed. love it

Auto 4-of in just about any blue deck right now. It's nice to see that Wizards haven't completely killed blue's draw spells... Now we want some good 2-mana counterspells.

Isn't this restricted in Vintage? It doesn't say that in its Sets & Legality tab.

Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?

I like the ability to shuffle your library... I play 4x brainstorm since forever and usually use it first turn to extend my opening hand, but I'm really ***ed when I see that the next two turns are going to suck... so this is nice to just shuffle again and change the future. Being a sorcery is a little less tricky than brainstorm since you could draw a counterspell in the right time, but I hardly keep a brainstorm in hand anyway.

Am I the first to notice that this is almost an exact copy of Portent except WITHOUT the drawback of the so called "delayed draw" where you have to wait until the next turns upkeep. Well you cannot do it to your opponent with this card, but thats fine.

Delayed draw is oldschool but weak. This card looks great.

When you compare the M10 version's art with Lorwyn's it just proves how terrible all of the artwork was in Lorwyn and Shadowmoor.

The advantage Portent has is that you can sabotage opponents with it. Ponder only works on you.

So, the ups and downs of the three cards:
-Brainstorm is an instant, but only works on you and you don't get the shuffle option.
-Portent works on any player, but is a sorcery and the draw is delayed.
-Ponder lets you shuffle, but it only works on you and is a sorcery.

Also, I like this art. Not really for the merfolk but for the water effects and the whole theme of "seeing the sky through the water's surface."

Dumb art. Well, except for the nips.

I'll say it since it's obviously on everybody's minds and nobody else seems willing to just get this out into the open.

Mermaid.
Nipples.

Much prefer the recent art for this card. But still, a great card!
