In Magic's early days, biblical references were fairly common, and they usually appeared in white. Eye for an Eye exemplifies the darker side of white. There is a fine line between justice and revenge, and Eye for an Eye blurs that line. White usually takes out its revenge on creatures (Vengeance), but this is a rare example of a white card that goes right for the opponent's life total.
