This ability can chain. Damn. If you were creating an Elf deck I see no reason to not have four of these in it. Get one into play and they all come into play for the price of one. Priceless. And 2/3 is not fantastic, but more than I would expect for a chained ability like that. 4.5/5

multikicker-esque, and not bad.

Excellent card. With the right acceleration you can easily play 3 in one turn. Then Overrun.

@sarroth "Get one into play and they all come into play for the price of one" For the price of one?

Well, this ability does chain, but for each additional 2/3 you pay an additional 1G, so it's more like multikicker. To get 2 you pay 3GG, for 3 you pay 4GGG, and for 4 of them you pay 5GGGG. Given that they are 2/;3 though this could well be worth it, especially in an elf deck since those are usually very good at generating mana.

Back in the day this was amazing. 2/3 for 3 was the norm for a vanilla creature, and being able to get 2 of them (4/6 total) for one card and 5 mana was damn efficient. Now unfortunately they can't compete with things like Leatherback Baloth. Still worthwhile in Elf tribal though.

{2}{G} for a 2/3 Elf is okay but the fact that playing elfs will give you lots of mana. So paying {5}{G}{G}{G} for 4 2/3 Elfs isn't bad and won't be that hard.

Mirri must have visited in the winter.

This card is very underrated for the late game or for effects that put creatures into play, like Warp World. I like it.

This is an exquisite ability in green, as some have mentioned it is somewhat similar to the kicker ability. In reality it's actually quite a bit better, when you pay the kicker cost on a card, you do so when it is cast, with Llanowar Sentinel you pay the optional cost when it enters the battlefield, the difference? If you're playing against a blue mage, they would have to decide to counter the spell before you decided whether or not to pay for the effect, since the spell needs to resolve first. Also if you have lots of mana open, you can fetch more than one.

{2}{G} = 1 Llanowar Sentinel
{3}{G}{G} = 2 Llanowar Sentinel
{4}{G}{G}{G} = 3 Llanowar Sentinel
{5}{G}{G}{G}{G} = 4 Llanowar Sentinel

No this does not work like multikicker at all. Multikicker is an activated ability that can be used when the spell is cast. This is a triggered ability, you can tell by the wording.

When this happens you may do this (Check)

When it comes into play, so when this happens, you can keep reading, when you do this you may do this, it seems pretty straightforward to me.

When it comes into play, when you have done this, you may pay 1G, blah.

"602.1. Activated abilities have a cost and an effect. They are written as "Cost: Effect. Activation instructions (if any).""

This is not an activated ability, it doesn't have a cost, the ":" is very critical to identify it.

Hum, "603.1. Triggered abilities have a trigger condition and an effect. They are written as "Trigger condition, effect," and begin with the word "when," "whenever," or "at." They can also be expressed as "When/Whenever/At trigger event, effect.""

Seems like a triggered ability doesn't it?

"603.2c An ability triggers only once each time its trigger event occurs. However, it can trigger repeatedly if one event contains multiple occurrences. See also rule 509.4.
Example: A permanent has an ability whose trigger condition reads, "Whenever a land is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, . . . ." If someone casts a spell that destroys all lands, the ability will trigger once for each land put into the graveyard during the spell's resolution."

So when it enters, if you pay 1G, then this effect happens, it can only happen once per Llanowar Sentinel that comes into play.

The original is the card that convinced me to make an elf deck! So glad it got reprinted!

It's GREEN SQUADRON HAWK @.@

Loses Flying, but gains the most relevant creature type in the game. I'm down with that.

It's a great card. It just barely misses the cut in my elf deck, mainly because it doesn't tap for mana and doesn't give all elves +1/+1. Still, it's pretty huge. If you're playing it in the right deck, they aren't likely to remain at 2/3. Combos great with Coat of Arms (you are playing Coat of Arms with your elves, aren't you?).

@ICEFANG13

People understand it's not the mechanically the same as multikicker. The point is that the result of the event is playing 2G for the creature then paying 1G any number of times to get more from your library. Which sort of plays out like multikicker.

Big meh from me. If your not playing with combos, this is just an overpriced vanilla creature.
