So at least for low mana situations it's almost silly. But it is a fine card for the end shot or point removal.
So if you like Blaze why not go look at Demon Fire or Bane Fire .

Yes, it's inferior to Banefire, Fireball and the like, but it's still a decent card. High pick in limited.

I gave a 4.5. Not to be used early. Plus with only one red it can be used in any multicolor deck that may need help with creature removal or direct damage. One other thing is that late game you almost get a 1 mana for 1 damage ratio.
I would play this with {1}{R} against, say, Rag Man or any number of nasty weenies.

As for strength or playability, nothing too special. There are lots of cards that surpass this quality.
However, for simplicity of design and its ability to teach mechanics to a player, top notch.
perfect coreset card. wish the name was more interesting though.

It helps the Midrange decks get rid of opposing creatures, that's really all I can see this doing in my deck.

Man call me stupid, I play this over fireball just because its so dang elegant. I know fireball is strictly better, but theirs something about this that just suites my style. Every time this is in my hand im checking tho to see if I had fireball would it save me the game, and so far nope. The first time that happens I will switch them out!! XD

The base for almost all cards.
As such, it's pitiful. But that's just the way things are. It's a foundation, and we owe a lot of really clever and useful spells to it.

The basic, simplest version of Fireball and Disintegrate. It's elegant and nice, but can't stand the compare to the others cards. However, if I had to build a Commander deck full of spells, I could even think to include it. 3/5

Ya it has been replaced by so many spells, but it is still above average for burn spells.
