At one time, red's premier ground-beater. Fire Elemental and Earth Elemental filled the 5 cc slot in any respectable red deck, and for players who didn't own the mighty Shivan Dragon, this topped out the curve. With its 5/4 power and toughness, Fire Elemental was arguably more useful than Earth Elemental. Fire Elemental was played far more often than blue's Water Elemental, as red had nothing in common to come close to Fire Elemental in terms of size. In the first "theme deck" I ever built (It was called 'Hellfire' and consisted of Fire Elemental, Drudge Skeletons, Wall of Fire, Wall of Bone, etc - Hey, I was 14, lighten up! :P) , this was my big finisher

Still not a terrible card by any means.

Didn't the folks at WotC recently saddle red with a 4/4 for 4R that has to attack every turn or some such thing? Amazing that this old card is still more powerful than some more modern creatures!

If DotP 2012 is any guide, we'll be seeing Fire Elemental again in a couple weeks.

Art reminds me of Red-Hot Hottie but this one probably inspired the latter.

@baconradar.

Actually in constructed it is a terrible card. Unless your playing elemental tribal and even then you have better options. Still can do something in limited where almost everything is garbage sure.
