Style points for using this to redirect a Lightning Bolt to toast one of their own creatures instead of your Lord of Atlantis. Makes the "No. 1" salute quite fitting.

Oh, come now. That's quite a leap. Yes, Swerve has both dropped in rarity and cheaper mana-wise (but don't forget it's also MORE color-intensive/restrictive, which usually comes with a bit of a CMC discount), and there has been plenty of power creep. This is just how the game has changed and adjusted as the years have gone by.
But remember that there are also effects that have been made MORE expensive. Gone are the days of 2- or 3-mana land destruction (the standard nowadays seems to be 4 mana minimum, usually 5 with an extra effect) and 2-mana counterspells with no restriction (these are the closest cards to Counterspell that we've gotten in recent years: Corrupted Resolve, Deprive, Unified Will, and Stoic Rebuttal - all four require some deckbuilding restriction or other hoops to jump through). And don't forget Demonic Tutor - a two-mana unrestricted tutor directly to your hand, as an uncommon. No way that wouldn't be rare or even mythic rare nowadays. Likewise, I think WOTC underestimated the power of Necropotence, and if they printed a similar effect today would either make it weaker or harder to pull off. ... or just make it a chase mythic rare. :S
