I don't get the "Whenever this deals combat damage, you gain 3 life" part ... why not just give it lifelink or something equivalent? Gaining a set amount of life feels weird.

Took me a minute to realize that he's a 2/3 for 3 and can get bigger and net you some lifegain. Not broken by any stretch, but a real, nice, solid creature in a really bad set is pretty good if you ask me.

To those of you wondering why he doesn't just have lifelink: This guy predates the lifelink keyword, so he couldn't have had it. Why he didn't just have the Armadillo Cloak-type ability ("whenever...gain that much life"), though, I couldn't tell you. I guess they had (unwarranted) power level concerns or something.

This is such a great card to use against aggro decks.
You're almost guaranteed to have a larger hand than an aggro player, and the 3/5 pseudo-lifelinker stats will drive them crazy. It's too big to burn up effectively, and attacking with a swarm will just result in losing attackers and dealing less damage because of the lifegain on this guy.
Being a three-drop might make it a little too slow to use against the fastest aggro decks out there, though.

I have to agree with the other's here. I am positive that gentleman pictured in this card is "Bob" from The Last Samurai, Seizô ***umoto. I mean I know "they all look alike," but not this alike. I'm pretty sure this guy should be getting royalties for using his image and likeness. Intellectual property rights aside, Bob is a pretty good card.
