You don't get to choose? What use is this? Either a 2/5 or a 5/2 for four is not good.

A 5/2 for four is bad. A 2/5 with defender for four is really bad. Random cards are really, really, bad. This card is really, really, really bad; aka, its garbage.

While I do not agree that this card is really bad, I must admit it is of limited use. When it's a 5/2 haste, it's ment to go and try to blow something up, but usally dies in the process. A 2/5 defender for 4 is meh at best.

I dislike the card, but I love the flavor text.

would have been better if it was 1 mana cheaper

Yes, it's a relatively useless card, but I find it fun to play sometimes.

Would of been halfway decent if you could at least choose.

This might be worth the rare slot if you could choose. Not bad, but there's better stuff to play.

Even if you could choose it would not be worth being a rare. The only good of this card is the flavor text.

I imagine this would be fun to play with if only it was more efficient. I wish red randomness would get more love.

If you could choose, this would be ok, a 3/5. a 5/2 Haste for 4 mana is 1/1 better than lightning elemental, which is an awful card. You'll rarely want a 2/5 wall, so having that versatility is only a small benefit.
If you can't choose, which I kind of like because red-randomness is cool, then it needs to cost something like 2R, or RRR, and have trample as well as haste. That way, if you win the coin toss, you get a slightly worse ball lightning that stays around, and if you don't, you still get a wall.

..I just realised this is a rare.
What a crap card, even at its best, a 5/2 haste for is vanilla-level power.
Nice design, a bit more power would have been nice. Both creatures need to be above the curve for the CMC in order for getting a random one to be worth it.

Yet another overcosted & unplayable red rare...why were you so nerfed, red? Bolt?

Well, I suppose it could be used to champion a Nova Chaser, though you do have better choices for that. The randomness is old-school red though, choosing its form would be more like blue.

You may scoff at the card, but I will bet you wish you had 1000 of them. http://i.imgur.com/GN63qwf.jpg

@GrimjawxRULES: Technically this coinflip has no "winner," so it doesn't interact with Chance Encounter, if your opponent chooses to let you use heads as winning in casual(the only place either of these cards should ever see the light of day anyway,) that's fine, but Official Rules-wise that doesn't work. If you for some reason have any use for this, possibly your group has ruled that heads does in fact count as "winning" or that you can declare which one you want and count that as "winning" Krark's Thumb let's you make this less chancy. All in all, still terrible and awfully unplayable. One of my friends played this in his casual RDW deck because he didn't have any better creatures to top his curve, always, without fail became a 2/5. Finally sick of it he picked up some Blistering Firecats, and now just wrecks shop.
