Yhe cost is symply too high to be a good card, high toughness and vigilance is a good combo though..

You're forgetting convoke. This + many tokens makes it easy to drop it on turn four or five.

This guy is designed for a Saproling deck. Tap 6 tiny little 1/1 creatures you just sorta get once every so often (or not so often with Pollenbright Wings or Mycoloth) and this guy is 2 CMC. White's the best secondary color for Saprolings anyway.
This is a decent card, and Convoke is a great ability, but it's still just too expensive. You have to tap so many creatures to make its cost reasonable that it's just not well-balanced. If it were a 6/7, with all of the same abilities, or 4GW with everything else the same, then it would be well-balanced.
On the other hand, giving it Vigilance was a great choice! It enhances its 7 toughness quite nicely, and adds to its flavor perfectly (it being a sentinel and all). Awesome artwork, too!
A solid 3 out of 5 stars, and maybe even a 4 out of 5 stars! This just goes to show you that even Ravnica's Common cards were decent!

This works with Eldrazi spawn. You can tap them to reduce his cost then sac them to pay for it.

It's a very solid creature when on the battlefield... The only problem is to make it enter! It's EIGHT mana, or tapping your creatures (and so not attacking, unless you have four or five Serra Angels, in which case you definetly don't need this guy...); the combo with Eldrazi Spawn tokens is good, but with them you have better cards to play (for example... eldrazi!). This card is not that good to me... I prefer the aforementioned Sir Shandlar of Eberyn from a vorthosian perspective! :D
