It really encapsulates the flavor of the dimir, but his abilities are far to expensive at sorcery speed (that and four mana for either one draw or one discard is often not worth paying for most of the time).

A solid 2/2 for 2 mana that can be blue or black, with something extra later game. The abilities are a little expensive, but its nice to have the option.

this guy is awesome, if you have 8 or 9 mana at the beginning of your turn, you pay 4, draw a card, and then play your guys or spells, sure the abilities are expensive, considering that you can draw two cards for 2 mana with sign in blood or two cards for 3 mana with divination, but this guy gives you the option to do it every turn, just everytime you want. Again
only good in late game, if you have mana for drawing the card AND playing something

Also good for U/B control decks. On your opponents endstep, if he/she didn't play anything worth countering and has no creatures worth removing, pay 4 and draw a card/force a discard.

@StaberFire: This guy's abilities are sorcery-speed, not instant-speed.
So, not so much.

it's a great card for blue black decks you both gain cards as youre opponent loses then awsome

@ StaberFire:

No, that's Azure Mage. Which is better overall because it fits perfectly into Caw-Blade as a sideboard card.

I like this card a little better than Azure Mage in a BlueBlack deck, because the discard ability. I use the discard ability until the opponent doesn't have a hand anymore, then I can cast my spells without problems. Then, I can draw cards if I need some fuel... It's much more versatile, and have a slight different use! And for the early draw, I prefer Dark Confidant than Azure Mage because I have to spend the mana for the discards...

I don't understand because some people thinks that this card is bad/overcosted. If it costed a little less, it would be not unfair but very powerful, and it deserved the rare status, at least (and compared to Cat Burglar way over the curve)... If its abilities were at instant speed, then that would be unfair: discard during the opponent's draw step, while he/she doesn't have a hand, is very brutal. For the simmetry, they had to give the same timing to the blue ability too...

I love this little guy. Great art first of all, but it also is nice to have repeatable draw and discard. Never underestimate how much card advantage can win games; in fact, if I could teach every new person in magic one thing, it's just HOW important card advantage is. No this isn't winning any vintage games, but I would actually consider playing this in modern. It's two great flavours that taste great together. Oh, and a two two creature! Yeah, that's nice too.

Good early game for being a 2/2 to help hold off other critters or add some decent enough damage if you're controlling well enough. Been quite helpful; however consider Azure Mage if you won't be needing the discard

Discard abilities (especially repeatable ones like this) pretty much have to be sorcery speed, because if they're not, you could use them to lock down your opponent. Force them to discard as soon as they draw every turn, and they'll never have a chance to cast anything but instants, nor to play any lands.

Ah. I remember when I was new to magic, I used to think the "play this only any time you could play a sorcery" clause meant that I had to hang onto a Sorcery card in my hand if I wanted to use his ability xD

Good times...
