I don't quite understand this card. It's best used against a black deck than in one.

This is another card in the long line of cheap aggressive black creatures with potentially significant drawbacks, like Phyrexian Negator. If you're playing a hyperaggressive black deck that swings for the max amount every turn, the drawback is unimportant. Alternatively, you could be playing this in a deck that runs more than one color, so that you still have creatures available to block. Still, given the power of similar cards in the past, this is less than exciting. There are better options.

Well, and what about multicolor creatures, for example those which are both black and white? Are they still able to block? Thanks)

@Bindweed: No, they are not. They are still black, so they still can't block at all.

He isnt bad at all. Easy to splash, and easy to swing with. He's like a black Erhnam Djinn with a plus side as well as a drawback.

Hmmmm....Shifting Skies could be interesting with this. Or a scuttlemutt.
Consider splashing for this guy to hate on black; meh. I'll have to find a use for him; as with all demons..

I find it funny that the comments on the original release of this card is full of people who obviously understand the mentalitly of the Black mage, as well as the idea behind this card (and ones like it).
Go to the Commander reprint, and you see a bunch of clearly new players upset because they get an aggresively-costed creature with a "drawback" and they can't understand.
