Rules question - what about tokens? I don't think they count, but one player assures me that tokens made by foils are themselves foil. (replace each instance of foil with premium if you must)

Coppro: The tokens need to be premium themselves to get the bonus. If you can find premium tokens, they'll have +1/+1.

Well, I think this belongs at mythic rarity and makes all your mythic rares cost 1 less and get +1/+1. Thats right, vengvine is now a 5/4 haste for 1GG. And you don't even want to know what happens to gideon.

@coppro: Tokens only have the traits that are defined for them. They don't have an artist, they don't have rarity, the don't have a mana cost, they don't have an expansion symbol, and they don't have premium-ness.

Predates the mythic rares by 4 years, but it is actually much rarer than mythic.
This quote sounds pretty reasonable to me:
"Here's how rare it is. One in every 2 packs is a foil. One in every 15 foils is a foil rare. Therefor one in every 30 packs is a foil rare. Every time you open a foil rare there is one in 41 chance it will be Super Secret Tech (Only comes in rare and there are 41 rares in the block). There are no rares more common then others when a set is released. So 30*41=1230. One in every 1230 packs should give you a super secret tech. 36 booster packs in a box. 1230/36=34.1. So about one ever 34 boosterboxes you should open a super secret tech."

Why shouldn't this work on shiny tokens? It's an Un-set card guys, officially there are no rules for it. Whether or not shiny tokens get +1/+1 should be up to the people you're playing. Personally I would allow it as long as you had foil token cards (Xth Goblins, elves zombies, and everything beyond including the shiny Marit Lage token they gave out for FNM a while back) but not for proxies since I'm already tolerating fake cards, and using fake shiny cards with Super Secret Tech is just blasphemous.

Fun fact:

If a card that is foil would produce tokens, those tokens are considered foil.

This is one of my favorite cards. I payed $12 just so I could have one and frame it. I love the number, I love the crazy rarity of it, but most of all I love the crazy rules calls it opens up. Good to know that foil cards produce foil tokens. Now... to somehow get three more so I can finally make that all foil deck even more distracting and awkward!

@silpho - I swear it wasn't here last time I checked out the Unhinged set on gatherer...also, it kind of needs to be here because otherwise it would open the door to people printing their own silver-bordered cards and claiming they existed and that claim being much more difficult to disprove (since asking about the card would either not work because they'd be cagey or would confirm the existence of this card).

It's unfortunate, but necessary.

I love the recursive nature of the artwork, and the fact it gives a throw back to the first few years of magic where there was no way to know about all the rares. Many of them were never seen in multiples unless you were incredibly lucky!
