surprisingly nice portal-only card. of course it's not game-breaking, but Venerable Monk may still learn a lot from this guy. i also like how they removed the restrictions for the cip/etb effect in the oracle :D
by the way, that fellow looks like a girl. i didn't know temple acolytes were allowed to be female back then O.o

Back then? The people and goblins and night stalkers in Portal2 have freaking GUNS! Freaky guns, but guns nonetheless... Yech!

This poor guy's about to be outclassed in Worldwake.

@Mode: You mean back when goblins and elves and planeswalkers existed? :-p

Good common. Lone Missionary is indeed better but this is arguably better than Aven Rif***cher: 1 mana less, gains 3 life immediately, doesn't vanish.

She's more defensive then Lone Missionary, with 3 toughness and 1 power compared with the Missionary's 1 toughness and 2 power. The Missionary is better in more aggressive decks, but she's better in defensive decks.

The Oracle text makes this card better. The text on Portal cards always seems strange even when compared to other old sets.

This is just a 1/3 without the oracle text in most cases. Cards don't enter from your hand (in most cases), they enter from the stack.

An interesting take on Venerable Monk - a better blocker with more toughness, one extra point of life, but is worse on the attack. Not a bad common, all in all.

I think it's funny how everyone is saying that Lone Missionary is clearly better when she actually beats Lone Missionary and lives to tell the tale...power isn't always better than toughness.
