It's hard to believe that the most broken equipment ever was inspired by this card.

i second that, how could they put that effect into equipment form?
since the main idea behind introduction of equipment was reusing it after the creature it was attached to dies as opposed to auras, this effect is much more abusable there with just any chump blocker.
maybe it wouldn't even have been that broken if they didn't also add +1/-1 for no apparent reason to remove the further need of a saccing card to get rid of the creatures.
well, these days we won't see Skullclamp anywhere but in Vintage.
i'd like to see a more balanced equipment form of this enchantment, though - although i guess we won't get one with a CMC and equipment cost of 1 anymore.

Wizards designed this card as a way to maintain card advantage when your creature dies. Play it on an opponent's creature, however, and you gain card advantage. If you were going to destroy their creature anyway, playing this on it beforehand makes it a Council of Soratami for 1 mana in green.

Throws a cantrip on your creature or removal spell for one green mana. though not always reliably.

@Mode: Don't forget, you'll also see Skullclamp in EDH.

Shouldn't you be telling that to an orderly?

Seems like a hit for multiplayer politics. As with most auras, it probably won't appear until turn 2, and probably won't trigger until later. Yet, there are too many ways for creatures to leave the battlefield without dying: bouncing, flickering, etc.
Drawing two cards is still a big deal though, especially with an investment of only Green.

Play this on your creature and you can break even... Wow, kinda pointless.

Pointless? How is that pointless? Normally creatures that die don't replace themselves with a card draw, so breaking even is ~better~ than normal. Certainly worth 1 mana.

I guess it could be kinda good with Nomad Mythmaker and Sun Titan in EDH.
