I wonder what Wizards was thinking saying, "that creature cannot be regenerated this turn". I mean, it's not like they're going to regenerate it next turn.

The "this turn" thing is there in case some other effect prevents it from being destroyed at the time of this spell resolving. If for some reason that other effect no longer applies the next time this turn that this would be destroyed, it still can't be regenerated. Really more relevant on burn like Incinerate, but still...

It's 'this turn' so you don't need to remember that that creature cannot be regenerataed anymore and of course because with MtG you'll never know if the creature can be saved from the destruction or not.

In this case it's easy. When the CIP triggered ability is put on stack and target selected you can play Deathlace and make the creature black, which means, that when the triggered ability resolves the target is no longer eligible and thus not destroyed. It still has the 'cannot be regenerated this turn' stigma on it thou.

Tavaritz - No, if they played Deathlace, the creature would become an illegal target and the whole ability would be countered. The only reason I can think of for it to say "this turn" would be if you made it indestructible in response, then someone tried to destroy it next turn. But indestructibility wasn't introduced until 4 years after this card, so ... /shrug

Am I allowed to cast this without a nonblack creature on the battlefield? Also, what happens if I play this with Tariel, Reckoner of Souls without a nonblack creature on the battlefield?

@rtmsfwl2: the creature spell doesnt need targets, so you can just cast it. the ability just fizzles. same with tariel putting it on the battlefield. the difference with for example doom blade is that doom blade needs a target when you cast it. so without a legal target, you cant cast doom blade.

This card is great, solid 4/5 for me. Has evasion, an easy win condition for control decks.
