In most cases, better than Lava Axe.
You get to choose targets, and you get to use it more than once (maybe).
But, I can see where splashing red for the Axe would be preferred.

@infernox10: You had better be talking about Limited play. otherwise, anyone who plays Lava Axe is a noob. Assuming 5 mana, having 2 of them be red is not that hard to do, and this is SO much better than Lava Axe in any situation.

I agree with infernox, this is not SO much better than Lave Axe in ANY situation. If I used this to target someone's head, durring my main phase, and they have 5 life both cards have the same function, and lava axe is very slightly easier to cast. At the very least this is only a bit better than Lava Axe in several situation.

As infernox said, better than Lava Axe in most situations, but once in a blue moon you may see this in your hand in a multi colour deck, and wish that you had Lava Axe because your mountains are in your deck/destroyed.

Always better than lava axe.
First: This is an instant. You can use it at the end of your opponents turn.
Second: This protects against mill. Buy's you a turn after Painter's Servant and Grindstone.
Third: This can target creatures.
Forth: I use Lava Axe as kindling.

Lava axe is better if you need cards in your graveyard or want to play it again from your graveyard. Not strictly better.
