One of the damn few red spells that destroy enchantments.

so unless I'm missing something, I don't see why this isn't rated higher. As I see it, one mana gets rid of ANY blue permanent, right? Say even a Stormtide Leviathan??

Dear Gatherer: please comment on my following proposal for a cycle

White Energy Blast-- 1WW
Instant- Rare
Counter target black or red spell, or
destroy target black or red permanenet.

Blue Energy Blast 1UU
Instant- Rare
Counter target red or green spell, or
Destroy target red or green permanent.

Black Energy Blast 1BB
Instant- Rare
Counter target green or white spell, or
destroy target green or white permanent.

Red Energy Blast-- 1RR
Instant- Rare
Counter target white or blue spell, or
destroy target white or blue permanent.

Green Energy Blast-- 1GG
Instant- Rare
Counter target black or red spell, or
destroy target black or red permanent.

Up the cost, change 'Elemental' to 'Energy', and make this a cycle.
The Design idea is that a hate cycle should exist that allows other colors access to spell-countering.
It works on the Red Elemental Blast and doesn't ruin the game- I think it can work in other colors, too.
*Blue should remain dominant, and this should be the only countering some colors get. (Green, Red)

The Development reason for the rarity is for Limited's sake, and because the effect
is quite powerful, but a staple for deck construction, so Mythic isn't right.
The converted casting cost is 3 because Wizards deems that is where Cancel should sit,
but the extra line of text makes all of these about twice as powerful as Cancel.

The Creative reasoning that allows Vorthos to get his head around multi-colored countering is that
each color has Wizards. The Wizard creature type, like Humans, is something that they all have in common, even though Blue Wizards are much more common. Wizards throw around brightly colored
'fireworks' spells all the time, and countering is the best thing I know to represent that.

Question: Does anyone think these cards would see play at 2CC? Or is that too much to ask because of the conditionality? At 2CC, they might be o.k. at uncommon....

The only thing I worry about is that this cycle might be THE perfect 'Hate' cycle, so good it renders other concepts for Hating obsolete. Question: Is that necessarily a bad thing? Although the entire Alpha set has finally rotated with the removal of Giant Spider from M12, I think the original idea of having some cards be constant, perennial classic mainstays of the game is a good one.

Is this too egregious a breaking of the color pie to be allowed, or do I make a decent case that this could be something to consider? Perhaps not in Standard...but what about future Planechase, Archenemy, or Commander decks?

The Oracle text is a huge change in functionality. "Destroys a blue card in play" used to mean you got to tear the card into pieces and burn it.
