The big question about the Thalakos is - What happened to them? I may be reading too much into this, but this land may indicate an interest in some at WotC in extending the Thalakos into white, perhaps as a replacement for the Soltari when Magic would next visit Rath. However, that next visit turned out to just be for the duration of a small set, and there obviously wasn't enough space to include the Thalakos amongst everything else the set had to include. Eather that or they were just forgotten.

@A3Kitsune: I think you are reading too much into this. On a different note, great art on this card! If only its usefulness matched the artist's good taste.

Adarkar Wastes does it better, but with damage involved. If you can't handle 1 damage for guaranteed mana, you're probably not doing it right. For some extra money and maybe 2 life, Hallowed Fountain works too. But I prefer the Wastes. And of course, Tundra, if you are rich enough.
