A very dangerous card, I have always wondered why this had a colorless mana in its cost while crusade was double white...Black weenie was an archetype thanks to this card...

Likely because the effect is so much weaker in black than in white.

Why would you use this in any other color deck than black? Maybe if you changed the color on the card with one of those classic spells. Otherwise it's ok.

By the way-- go through Gatherer and just check out all the Alpha and Beta cards that are LESS than $100-1000, that you'd STILL actually play? There's a lot! Alpha is at least as well put together a set as Tempest :3
Since this card's original printing, there are QUITE a lot more Black tokens to abuse it with, making it....still not as good as Honor of the Pure by a long strecth, but probably better than Crusade if you try to build around it!
I think Black might be the 3rd best color at Token making? It gets some of the largest tokens, like Demons and Marit Lage, and it also has at least one tribe, Zombies, that makes a -lot- of tokens. I know Red has Spark Elementals and stuff like that frequently enough, but I don't think Red does all that many tokens compared to Black.
