The name is a pun of the Grapes of Wrath, obviously. It belongs to a long-forgotten era in which the best green creature in the game was Ernham Djinn, and as green went from a joke color to playable, merely efficient creatures such these stopped wasting rare slots, and nowadays you'll open uncastable monsters that cost 12 mana instead.

Even given "the times" I don't think I'd run this card. Sure its a 5/4 for 4...but for 4 back "in the day" you could just get a 3/3 and swing twice (doing, effectively, more damage than this creature). I guess this works better for things like "Fling" but with cards like Erhnam Djinn, Elvish War Hounds and Autumn Willow being played back in the day...this card just doesn't make the cut. Perhaps if you had some odd "apes" deck or ... green stasis? Yeah I don't get it either.

I wouldn't wonder if the grass rose out of the artwork borders, because this artworks looks like it would belong to a card from the Un-sets. At least the ape in the middle crossing his arms gives this card a rather funny appearance.

I was playing then and this would not have been considered a good card. By then green creatures were already becoming stronger, and Stampeding Wildebeests filled the same niche this card did with a lesser drawback and better combo potential. Glad everyone caught the pun though.

The only way around the drawback that I see is making use of the card nearest in set to this that grants Vigilance: Serra's Blessing.
