How do you make prodigal sorcerer better? Make it a merfolk!

I don't know how this creature has a ping ability, but I do know it runs well with Merfolk Commerce. Ping on your turn, untap at the end of turn using Commerce, ping on another's turn, then untap during your turn. Nice. By itself no better or worse than Prodigal Sorcerer, but much better with Commerce. It just doesn't make any sense though.

@Sarroth Originally, waaaaaay back when, the ability for creatures do deal direct damage was a blue-aligned ability.
Why is this rated so much lower than Prodigal Sorcerer when it's the same thing with better tribal interactions?

@achilleselbow: Tim's the original, with much of the rating based on nostalgia rather than power. This guy's just a copycat, albeit a much more useful copycat.
I don't know why they didn't keep pingers in blue. Hasted red pingers don't seem too useful when you could use a ton of other cards that are more efficient at the same cost.

Isn't it funny how the censoring actually makes things worse? I would have never in a million years associated anything vulgar with Roo***er Hunter until the auto-censor pointed it out with a wink and a giggle!

I don't know that I would really say merfolk are BETTER than wizards as a tribal. Both are well supported.

Originating with Prodigal Sorcerer and Pirate Ship.
