This may have been considered powerful, but this was never powerful outside of middle school cafeterias. Life gain has improved, but it still isn't good and never will be. Good life gain = long games = too many games cut short (or delays) at organized play.
Nourish is better unless you use 8 mana. If you're using 8 mana, you should cast something else (hopefully not Taste of Paradise, but even that would be a better idea).
