To be more specific - Black was notorious for having drawbacks on creatures that would be mediocre-at-best even without the drawback. See Serpent Warrior, Foul Imp, Spineless Thug, etc.
Nowadays black is just notorious for resembling a Twilight fanfic. I really hope Il Barone returns and whips them all into line...

I know this guy... who swears by these... says "You have to admit there a good card to own" to which I replied "NO! I DON'T. Not even in an insect deck."
Also said "There good when you catch someone off guard and attack." after which he decided not to attack while we were all wide open.
I tried my best to explain to him why I'd rather use anything else but he took the old "Well I dont own that card" excuse. So I pointed out that he left out his Skeletal Crocodiles that he did indeed own. Not only do they cost the same, but they can block and usually kill at 5 power. Also they hit harder during that "good when you catch someone off guard" crap he mentioned.
Why can't some people understand good old logic...
Ok, my rant is over.
Wait a minute - look at all of Jeff Easley's cards he drew for Magic. Pound for pound, they have to be the suckiest creatures Magic ever made one artist draw.

Um... No... There's been 9 creatures with a lower than 2.5 (so dead average) rating made by him out of 32 he's illustrated...

If he was as good as he is cool-looking, Type 1 would have been changed forever. As is, his bulky shell only serves to cram 10-cent bins.
