Creepy artwork on a strange card of limited effectiveness. You need an artifact to target and a willingness to sit around taking damage for a while, and then plenty of turns to recover it. In most cases, this card ends up about as exciting as Farmstead ("Wow, I gained 1 life a turn!") with the upkeep cost swapped for the need to take damage.

This card is not as bad as Radagast claims. You can have more than one out at the same time, in which case you'll gain more life than you lost. E.g. if you have 2 of these out, and you hit yourself with a Prodigal Sorcerer, you'll gain 2 life the next turn. Not an amazing card, but better than Farmstead.

Okay. I always played this like you could remove as many counters as you wanted per upkeep, so the opponent had to swarm to win.

Old version of Sun Droplet, as an enchantment on an artifact (so, easier to remove), and only in green. So, strictly worse.
