Even though there are cards that have made this guy obsolete, I still run him, for old time's sake.

A Joraga Treespeaker played on turn 1 is ready to produce 2 mana on turn 3, whereas this guy played on turn 3 just sits in his summoning sickness stupor, stuffed silly with the extra 2 mana you had to feed him.

Nearly strictly worse than Joraga Treespeaker, but that card costs to play and activate while this one is just . Plus, this one can't be Pithing Needled, whereas the Treespeaker can be prevented from leveling up.
Still, Joraga Treespeaker is by far the better card, so I would always play it over this card.
