I think that this is a cool concept, adding toughness to your band...but then again, banding is...well...kinda suckish in most situations

Flavourfully, as a card, this is kind of pitiful.
The guy doesn't have enough training to become a true knight, so he is a squire to someone, carrying around their shield. It makes sense, because back in the medieval days, there were people on the battlefield who'd do this.
But this is Magic: you have dragons and wizards and stuff. All this guy has achieved is to hold a shield. Heck, you don't even need to spend to mana to put a kite shield down on the field.
Now that I mention it, this is practically a Kite Shield, except equip is done only during combat.
