The only redeeming quality of this card is the fact that it's some form of colorless life gain. Which, while welcome, doesn't warrant this card any rating above 1/5 IMO.

It's a low cost artifact that does a minor life gain thing for one colorless mana. This artifact has been around since the very beginning so it apparently has to compare to all of the similar cards that have come after it. There are better cards out there (oh what a shock and/or nightmare...), but in all honesty it's not terrible for what it does, especially for its time.
