3 mana on top of Dead Weight just to give -1/-0. Yikes.

Continue, you bring up a good point...
If adding "Dead Weight" to a creature gives it -2/-2, why does adding the weight of the WHOLE UNDERWORLD only weaken the creatures power? Is the underworld so underpopulated that it bears nearly no burden?
Also, before anyone takes my thunder, if you give this to Crypt Ghast, all the masks implode on impact.

1 star for playability compared to Dead Weight, but 5 stars for flavor.

It's a shame the amazing artwork and flavor is wasted on such a bad card

I guess the weight of hubris is what led to the ridiculously heavy mana cost?

Good artwork. The card sucks.

I know creature removal is lacking in this set but I'm just not sure I can ever justify spending 4 mana to get rid of a X/2.

Oh good, my Terrible Cube needed more removal, and this is probably worse than Kagemaro's Clutch.

This card isn't for killing creatures. It's for weakening a powerful creature that has a bunch of bestowed auras on it.
You can take the aura'd up creature out of the equation without killing it and letting giving them another body when the bestowed aura falls off.
Decent in limited.

Such a cool name wasted on such a poor card. Sometimes you make me mad wizards... :(

Maybe it would have been pushing too far, but you'd think the Weight of the Underworld would give -X/-X where X is the number of creatures in either your graveyard or all graveyards. As it is right now, Alkmenos has nothing to really complain about.

That would have actually fixed a terrible card with great flavor and made it even more flavorful. And it would definitely not have pushed it too far, since it'd still just be potentially useless removal for four mana. So even then, , , hell even would still have been fair. (I know and would have been agressively costed, but that's the only way I could see it getting constructed play - which would have been a good thing, because look at the artwork and name of that thing!)
This final design is just insulting, both regarding flavor and power. The weight of the whole Underworld, supposed to decrease by 1 point more than a dead weight? And I'm supposed to pay three more for that?
I know Theros isn't supposed to have much strong removal spells, but this is just desperate, poor junk card design.

I have one in foil and it looks amazing. I also love the flavor. The card, however...
