I don't care if this costs 7 CMC, this is fan-tas-tic. Yes, probably EDH only, but absolute EDH gold. Also, dat art!!!

This is the only one of the cycle that doesn't end in -tion. And that bothers me for some reason.

That war mask is so cool.

I love it how you can revive an opponent's creature. Works well with Thoughtseize and other discard effects.

Super cool effect. Sadly only fringe playable even in EDH.

- Even Indestructible only protects from so much in EDH.
- 7 Mana means even in EDH you won't cast anything else that turn.
- Instant Speed might be useful but could also make you inclined to wait with 7 mana up in search for a good target - that doesn't comes and you wasted your whole turn doing nothing.

Too expensive to reanimate one creature, even with the attached bonuses. How often will you reanimate a creature that is better than the seven mana rare you could have played instead of this card?

@EyeballFrog: Dammit, now that bothers me too. And it could easily have been something like Fated Ressurection.

You know, the thing about reanimation cards like these is that generally you want the spell to be CHEAPER than the creature you're trying to reanimate. Adding indestructibility is a fine reason to bump up the cost a little, but you have to realize that any reanimation target is already going to be hard enough to deal with and if it needed indestructibility to make it playable it wouldn't have been considered a target in the first place.

I think 7 is a fine price to pay for a spell that lets me get an indestructible Emrakul after I discard him. Instant speed means it can respond to those pesky graveyard shufflers.

I wouldn't want to hardcast this, but it might be worth it imprinted on a Spellbinder.

Cast this on an Archetype of Endurance to make an indestructible dude that makes your creatures hexproof, and it costs less than his normal CMC. Handy for BG reanimator decks that decide to run a little bit of mana ramping. Of course the BBB cost is difficult to surmount, but hey, it's just a thought.

Expensive yes, but you are absolutely getting your money's worth on it.

Rise from the Grave is not a terrible card (not great, but not terrible), so getting indestructible, instant speed, and possible scry for {B}{B} more sounds like a deal.

Whyyy is this called Fated Return? They had such a nice theme going: Retribution, Infatuation, Intervention, Conflagration... and this.

Why not Resurrection? Restoration? Reversion? Gah.

Surely a very nice card for Black's arsenal, but flavorwise I'm wondering why it grants indestructability. That's not Black's ability. Perhaps if it also changed the raised creature to an enchantment creature which is the theme in Theros block. Now it looks just a random non-flavorful chase card for EDH players.

Well, just tired of the continuous bleeding of color pie...

@eskan also, 'restoration,' sounds too White, and anything rooted in 'reversal' sounds too Blue.

i like rise from the grave in a casual mill deck because it's cheaper.
Don't know if i'll try this one.

I like the card and have put it in my Kaalia deck to reanimate the many Angels, Demons, and Dragons it has. I'm unsure though if it is worth in a Lazav/Phenax mill deck simply because of one card that seems to be in every deck in my local meta: Homeward Path!

Spend 7 mana to effectively give the owner an indestructible threat that you already milled/killed/made the discard. Now, I could reanimate my own guys in the mill deck sure, but it doesn't run that many, like 10-15.

Recursion is the word you're thinking of.
