Flavorful, but worthless ability. At least without giving it the tim ability. And really, that is a weak "combo". I've been playing since Revised, and have seen this card out scores of times, but can't recall it ever getting any counters.

Aww, I was hoping for a new illustration. =( No offense, but those claws just look silly, although nothing would be able to top the original artwork by Anson Maddocks, in any case.

I've had this gain counters before, but only when I was either obviously about to win (and my opponent was reduced to chump-blocking it with a tiny flier in order to survive), or when I was about to lose (and I was forced to use it to block a massed attack that would kill me anyway.)
It's not an ability that is likely to make much difference either way.
