shivan oasis is getting sadder... i'd still rather play gruul turf. the land is going to come into play tapped regardless. i might as well ramp the mana.

Ramping is when you generate more mana or put more sources of mana into play faster than you would by playing lands ordinarily, i.e. Rampant Growth for 3 sources on turn 2, effectively 4 mana on turn 3. The main reason the bouncelands are good is because they're card advantage; by returning a land to your hand in exchange for playing a land that taps for {GR}, it's as if you're just playing a mountain or a forest that draws you a card when it comes into play tapped.
