Doom Blade is almost better all the time, except against 1/1 indestructible creatures (if you have less than seven cards in the yard) or against regenerators.

Argh. It's Dark Banishing for {1} less when you have threshold and Night of Night // Day for {1} more if you don't. Let's compare apples to apples here. It's a decent card IF and only IF you're playing a deck that can get threshold (lots of instants/ sorceries/ sacrifices). For that kind of deck, however, I prefer Ghastly Demise, which scales.
