Decent card in some kind of cruel ultimatum style slow control R/U/B deck.

You will be paying more mana then the creature is worth to kill it with this, but that's not really the point. If you properly target a nice aggressive creature, the damage hit can be astronomical, more than worth the extra mana it took to kill. Against control, this can also be a surprise finish if they stabilized late. sadly, to deal with ramp/cheat targets, you need to ramp as well. Best target for this ever: Phyrexian Dreadnought.

late game finisher for delirium/purge deck.. used dark ritual to pay for the x cost but if you ramp aku djinn or let your opponent keepemberwilde djinn then you can use this to great effect.

Would this work if it says destroys first then if it goes to the graveyard meaning its already in the graveyard. it does 13 damage. :P Death's Shadow

At the time this came out, this was pretty big stuff! I remember really liking the card in the late game back in the day.
Now days, it's just average. A lot of cards do most of what this does, and any Banishing type effect typically does better in the long run.
