kinda inferior to Terrarion. being a slow trip and a three-drop, the activation cost of 1 rather than 2 doesn't really equalize the cantrip ability and cmc of 1, even though Terrarion also comes into play tapped.

I disagree, I think that being able to grow your mana is preferable to filtering it. I'm most likely to be playing this in the early game, when I can only play one or two spells anyway, so I don't mind getting that card at next upkeep.

I played this card SO MUCH back in the day. I started playing during Ice Age and this was my go-to for splashing removal into green decks since I didn't own any Birds of Paradise.
