Nice. Something for black to have that can kill off black creatures.

Anyone else find a subtle irony in the fact that he turns holy via Threshold? As in, using the power of having 7 dead guys?

@GradiustheFox

Hey, at least he isn't using the power of 7 little boys, like some holy people we could mention.

This sucks, you can't even use the threshold ability to put +1/+1 counters on it as the first ability needs the creature to deal damage but the second ability just says destroy.

4.5/5 for flavor alone. I love this card, even if threshold won't boost its power.
He can't suicide though..

@gradiusfox

His name is REPENTANT Vampire. He repents his sins - you get it? After he has killed enough creatures, he regrets his deeds and seeks redemption.

How would his Threshold Ability work with a Darkest Hour on the battlefield?
Would the Threshold ability override Darkest Hour or would Darkest Hour override the Threshold ability?
longwinded

@GradiustheFox:
threshold just marks the passage of time. It doesn't care about just dead creatures -- cards can mean land or spells -- and it certainly doesn't care about dead creatures in your opponent's graveyard. If you have threshold, you've been committed to the battlefield for a certain length of time. Time enough for mutants to transform, lycanthropes to change form, and in this case for the evil to repent. Innistrad's night/day system for transform cards -- where no spells cast in a turn marks nightfall and two spells cast in a turn marks daybreak -- is a similar way to tie the passage of time to the tempo of the battle.

@Ivan_Dreka: First you use the layer system, then for effects that are in the same layer you care about timestamp order. They're both color changing effects, so which ever came into effect last is the one that sticks. The threshold ability here is phrased as a static effect, which means it has the same timestamp as the permanent on it. (In other words, cast the vampire after Darkest Hour is on the battlefield, and it will be white or black depending on the state of your graveyard. If it comes in first, Darkest Hour assures that it's always black.

Aside from that, this particular card is also notable for being half of the art in a Buffy/Angel tribute (the other half being Gallantry), and in being a cute prelude to Torment's Possessed creature cycle: Possessed Nomad, Possessed Centaur, Possessed Barbarian, and Possessed Aven.

Actually, @BastianQoU, he can suicide if you play a Darkest Hour after him.

This card may be my favourite Magic card ever in terms of sheer flavour. I'm usually a Johnny-ish mechanics nerd, but I'm making an entire Angel-themed flavour deck around this guy.
