Shouldn't be rare, today 2UU would be a sufficient cost.

2UU is what control magic did cost...why is blue so powered down now?

Lately this card was in fact not considered worthy a rare slot, but you're wrong about the mana cost, pfirpfel - Wizards still thinks that five mana are suitable for Core Sets these days.

why is thelittleupsman talking about "now"? the time this Oddysey card had been printed was almost a decade ago, wouldn't it have been more advisable to say this on the 10th edition printing instead?... O.o

Yet i agree, reprinting Control Magic in a Core Set where Lightning Bolts, Doom Blades and other powerful cheap white removal spells are played can do most removal wouldn't have hurt that much in my opinion.
Besides, this card (and M10's Control Mind) is/are also inferior to Treachery, therefore i really don't get why this card took a rare slot in Odyssey - while powerhouse cards like Standstill for example took an uncommon, and Wild Mongrel a common slot.
Therefore don't even think of playing this in eternal formats.

@thelittleupsman: You really need to ask that?

Anyway, yeah, this thing is good. Win-limited-games-on-its-own good. It's not worthy of a rare slot, not because it's too weak, but because it's too simple. Nekrataal is also an uncommon with comparable power. The reason they're stuck at a lower rarity is because they aren't as crazy and splashy as some rares. Also, more bombs make limited more interesting, since the games are less likely to devlovle into stalemates. Don't you agree?
