A surprisingly good addition to aggressive black limited and casual decks of the era. Threshold was not particularly difficult to achieve, and a 4/5 regenerator can be hell for some decks to try and compete with, especially when the best removal spell in the same set (Innocent Blood) was a forced sacrifice rather than targeted.

Would definitely see more play if regenerating didn't require discard.

The discard is there to build up Threshold.

Wer(e) means man in Old English, so a Wererat would be a human that turns into a rat, I guess. Like a werewolf.

I feel like a lot of cards with threshold on them could be simplified to read: "Threshold--This card finally becomes worth it's mana cost."
