I appreciate the fact that two counterspells out of one card has proven to be dangerous, but this played it too safe. WAY too expensive, I don't recall anyone ever using it outside of Odyssey-only limited formats and even then, not regularly.

It was part of a trend of stepping away from powerful counters. Problem was that counters were so much better than what they were countering that decks with them were the only viable ones. It wasn't until Cancel that the powerlevel was allowed to get back up to an acceptable level.

I feel the need to ask what that gentleman's brain is doing outside of his skull.
Exposed brain? ... I think I saw this guy in Hannibal.

I see this being playable in EDH. 1-for-1 counters and removal are less effective in the format because you have to be in for the long haul, so a counterspell you can drop twice is very valuable. Also to this card's advantage, mana is significantly less of an issue over time. By the end game you could realistically play it and use it's flashback in the same turn.
Also it's a great way to mess with people's heads. If they know you have the mana for it and can see it sitting there they're either going to hold back and not play, or tease you into wasting it. Of course with that 7 mana you have untapped you could drop multiple other counterspells, but they may focus so hard on this they don't consider that. If a card can keep a player from even trying to drop a big game-winning creature, that's useful.

If you had a geek party where everyone had to come dressed as a character or creature from a Magic card's artwork, this one would be pretty easy and gross/funny. A nice brainhat and some paper machie tentacles, then make a trollface at everyone while they try to guess.

They squeeze the body and wrap the mind.
This is a great card for EDH! It's the only counterspell with flashback so I don't find it too expensive, especially in a format that values utility and mana ramp is no problem. Most likely your opponents will forget that it's in your graveyard or wont know it has flashback. And if they do know what it's capable of they may target another player than throw something your way that will fizzle. Counter spell with black discard protection.
