This card is a reference to The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, which makes it very, very awesome.

When you spend 5 minutes reading a card only to say to yourself "Oh... is THAT all it does?" that is the sign of a bad card.

I guess this could be "good" with Lure like effects.

With valor made real would be handy against a swarm deck. Unlikely to ever work... but would be awesome if it did

Problem with this & Lure is that this flies. Valor Made Real sounds much more better and if you combine it with a way to plop this on battlefield instant speed (Leyline of Anticipation for example) we have a winner.
Why is this version rated higher than the other?

Lure effects, my favorite being magnet web, use this cards and cards with similar effects in a lovely manner. use it to take out important creatures while blocking also works. (really makes people hate me when i use it on their generals in edh.

This card is very specific and narrow. And its a giant bird that dies to Fugitive Wizard.
