I traded my royal assassin for this guy and a fireball back in the day. A 7/6 creature was the biggest creature I had ever seen and I had just been finished by a fireball. It was my first game off course...

Awesome artwork, no more Dune-esque four jawed worms, this is what they all should look like!

That wurm knows it's beautiful.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that back in the day this was in fact the biggest creature that didn't have some terrible drawback like Leviathan, Polar Kraken, Lord of the Pit, or Cosmic Horror.

Laughable by today'd standards, but still amusing for the time, and a great target for reanimation back in the day since it was huge and had no drawback.

Still the prettiest wurm of them all, and by far my favorite card of the 200+card, 5 color Ice Age/Homelands/4th Ed deck that I started Magicking with.
Also, I got him on a t-shirt, that I still wear. From time to time anyway.

Truly iconic Magic art. I remember I looked at this guy with awe when I first started playing, and was ecstatic when I got him in one of those 60 card snow-covered land-included Ice Age decks.

I'd like to know what size is the original wurm of which this is the scaled version.

Scaled-down Wurm.

I can remember opening Ice Age boosters, hoping to open nothing more than a Scaled Wurm. He was the biggest creature I knew about, and therefore the best. When I opened that Polar Kraken instead I was disappointed, as even despite it's greater size, no f'ing way was I going to give him all that land! It wasn't nearly as handsome and regal as Scaled Wurm, either. I learned that there was a lot more to a creature than sheer size.
Sure, this realization taken further would lead me to avoid using cards like Scaled Wurm in the future. But it makes me ever more appreciative of the card; it was a big scaly step up on my way to becoming a better player.

Just answer the following question.
Which card was depicted on Ice Age boosters, decks, boxes, posters, etc.?
Looks like a dragon (wurm) from The Voyage of the Basset.

The art represents the best of Magic's early days. Totally outclassed by today's standards, but judging from the comments, it seemed liked a fan favorite.

Nearly 20 years later, still one of my favorite pieces of Magic art. Iconic.

I remember a kid who actually motioned within my group of friends to change this guy's color from green to blue, because "Obviously, guys! He's blue!" We actually took it as a very serious suggestion and it was a huge source of playground debate. Ah, kid logic. Good times.
