This should be called Seventh Edition Assassin.

It is truly staggering how much worse this art is. Worse is how I never noticed before.

I'd like to try some of these guys out in a grave pact deck.

stronghold assassin was so much cooler looking in stronghold....
plus his name was so appropriate.

oh and he goes fairly well in the gravepact deck though I find I often have him sacrifice himself....
annoying when playing against another black player though lol.

also off topic a little bit but I just realized that gravepact vs gravepact = instant field wipe every time something dies...

Although I wish this would work with Grave Pact it doesn't (I wish Grave Pact worked with Deathspore Thallid.)

Once you sac a creature and choose the target (say a Saproling) Grave Pact's ability goes on the stack and it now above Stronghold's effect, it resolves first and the other player has to sac a creature, he can sac any of them, but since you are killing the Saproling anyway, it makes the most sense to sac the Saproling and counter the effect.

When did she become a Zombie? And why? She really doesn't look very zombified to me.

@alextfish The art for the original printing depicts an assassin who is very obviously undead. Creature types on old cards were given a huge update some time ago to bring them in line with modern standards; before that, Stronghold Assassin was exclusively an Assassin. Given this and how Seventh Edition has been noted to possess a number of issues with regards to art and flavor, the undeadness wasn't preserved for Seventh Edition most likely because they were not aware it would matter later on, and might not have cared much to do so anyway.

@ICEFANG13: Grave Pact does work with Deathspore Thallid. Tokens are removed from the game after they end up in another zone; but they still hit that zone first, so a token will trigger "goes to the graveyard" effects even though it vanished the moment it arrived there.

I swear all the 7th edition artists were high...or lazy. Probably both.

That said, the card is okay, don't forget he can sacrifice himself for his ability if he get's targeted with a kill spell.
