lorendorky, please note the sets this has been in. Cadaver Imp came much later, and is a bonkers of upgrade of this. I would have preferred if they had instead decided to make Cadaver Imp a non-flying 3/3 for 2BB, on top of the gravedigging. have to call it something else though.
edit: My point is Cadaver Imp is around now, and arguably better (Although these decks are 3 color.)

To say that a card this card is a "downgrade" of a card that came out AFTER makes no sense. To say that Cadaver Imp is an upgrade to Gravedigger whould be a more apt way to convey your idea.
Although, I would argue that one is not strictly better than the other. While the imp is cheaper and has flying, it is also weaker and costs double black. Gravedigger is more easily splashed, has a stonger p/t, and is in a very well-supported tribe. Both could have a role.
