Contrast Ice Age's Wings of Aesthir. +0/+3 vs First strike. The toughness boost is generally preferable- your creature gets instant Lightning Bolt protection, which is invaluable in an aura. Both help the creature survive in dogfights, (or against ground-to-air seeking Spiders), but since Flying is naturally a means to avoid being blocked, combat is somewhat moot.
The card is generally okay, though. Poor auras didn't get much love in this particular era. Well, with certain notable exceptions. *cough* Rancor.

Another comparison: Nimbus Wings. Leave out the blue, get 1 less toughness.
