"Battlefield Forge" would be a good name for an artifact. Maybe a cheap fortification. But it's not the name for something which is fixed in one place, which lands tend to be.

Should've been called battlefield smithy? Or just war camp or something.

If you're losing 1 life each time you use the forge you should get it checked or something.

A solid r/w land. In the first few turns it might sting a little, but once you get a few more lands on the field it provides colorless mana readily.
In most games, I don't lose any life with it (since I use it for its colorless mana), but occasionally I let it sting me for 1 or 2 points of damage while I'm waiting for my mana colors to be fixed. If I have 4 lands on the field, I usually only need to use this to pump my creatures enchanted with a Scourge of the Nobilis, which is fine because I get the life I gave up right back.
