I rate it only 1.5, because it's better than Squire and has at least a little late-game worth. But the art is awesome.

Eh, pretty bad.
If the kicker gave it +1+2 it would be decent, but obviously +1+2 isn't a good counter to have floating around.
So instead I'd have liked to see it be a 4 mana kicker and give three +1+1 counters. That makes it a 4/5 vigilance for 6. In white, that isn't horrible.

My kind of draft card. I don't mind paying 4 for a 2/3 vigilance that could come out two turns earlier if I need it.

The kicker really is superfluous. A 1/2 with vigilance for {1}{W} is okay, especially in a creature type with decent support like soldiers. It's splashable. However, a 2/3 with vigilance for more than 3 mana just isn't worth it. maybe if the kicker gave it first strike as well...

The kicker feels a little expensive but then again it's a common and the kicker is colourless mana so I suppose it was balanced for the time.
I don't like the art for this, it looks more like a red warrior or berserker than white soldier. Something with unleash or haste or rampage or whatever, not vigilance.
