I think I love this thing for pauper. Right now, the meta-game is not very creature intensive but I think that will change drastically with the next set (along with saying good bye to Jace) so this might be an overlooked Sleeper Agent until the meta gets turned on its head.

Hi, Necrite!

Welcome back with your built in Fear.

And no, I don't care if you can't kill regenerating creatures now.

I could see this filling the role Gatekeeper of Malakir did for many {B} control decks. Its more flexible in a lot of ways, and certainly a much more efficient attacker. It is slower, but targeted.

Strictly better than Severed Legion.

@The_Sturm: Not quite strictly better than Severed Legion. Creature types are relevant sometimes, especially if Zombie is one of them

My god, it's a Necrite that's actually playable!
...Shame I can't play her in thrull tribal. Still, excellent card, especially in limited and pauper.

It's very gratifying to see that the response to this Necrite update is generally positive. Not only is it a good callback to an older creature, but it fits in very nicely with the sacrificial subtheme that the Phyrexians have going for them. The more cards like this that I see, the more I want to make a deck that uses Furnace Celebration...

Also, just unbelievable art.

i really like this card....it has a nice art...and a good effect for its mana cost 5 stars....i think some players are not yet seeing its potential...

I don't think tribal counts when considering whether a card is strictly better than another, and so I have to conclude this is strictly better than Severed Legion. Not as cool, unfortunately.

This card can be absolutely abusive in black decks. Using nothing but 3 of these, a Morbid Plunder, 2 Gravedigger cards, and a Reaping the Graves along with two removal cards; it gave me complete board domination until I eventually won just by attacking with them. 5/5

I can't make up my mind about her. On one hand, removal is generally cheaper and quicker (Doom Blade, etc), but the evasion is also powerful.

A good card in limited, though. Almost saved me a few games. (I'm bad at draft to begin with, though)

"Fear my New Phyrexia expansion symbol dagger of Phyrexian Blackain!"

(Note that the guy does not really fear her. He is intimidated by her.
...he has a good reason to fear for his life, though.)

Deceptively good, as an extra removal spell really. Works well at any point of the game outside a Black mirror match. Taking a threat out with it will often be a great exchange. Plus it's well costed for early aggro' beats if need be.

Wow, a master of etherium comment that isn't obnoxious in almost any way. Good job!
EDIT: this card could be fun in a r/b human/vampires Blade of the Bloodchief deck

Not strictly better than Necrite (Necrite stops regeneration effects), but it's got Intimidate, which goes miles towards making it better in most situations.

I have a question:

Most sacrifice abilities require that you sacrifice the creature (or permanent) to the ability in order to power it so that you can't do things like:

Sac Death Cultist
-> Opponent loses 1 life
-> I gain 1 life
-> Bloodthrone Vampire gains +2/+2

Typically those cards are worded differently such as:

Sacrifice a creature: Bloodthrone Vampire gains +2/+2 until end of turn.
Sacrifice Death Cultist: Target opponent loses 1 life and you gain 1 life.

With this card it seems to imply that if it does damage and if you sacrifice it (regardless of what too or why) you get to choose a creature to destroy. I'm assuming that isn't the case but the wording makes me question.

A 3 drop evasive creature that swings earlier on and kills a bomb later is always appreciated.

This is a great card in limited, especially if you play against a deck where intimidate is relevant (even though it did have to be in Mirrodin of all places, with all the artifact creatures). Still, removal is removal, no matter how clumsy it gets.

@alphagprime
You cannot sacrifice something and use it for multiple abilities.

If you sacrifice the death cultist to a different ability (bloodthrone vampire), you can't sacrifice it for its own ability.

If an ability has a : in it, it means that everything to the left of it is a cost. Paying a cost happens even faster than instants. It just happens when you want to use the ability. You can't sacrifice the same creature twice.

This card is worded differently because it is a triggered abillity (ie you don't just pay the cost and then have something happen). If you sacrifice this creature before the triggered ability resolves, you won't be able to sacrifice it to this ability and you won't be able to kill anything. If you sacrifice this creature to this ability, it will not be able to be sacrificed to another ability like bloodthrone vampire.

Anyways, the biggest thing to remember is that you can't sacrifice something more than once.

Very decent filler card. Strong evasion and can take out your opponents biggest monster if needed.

This card is really nice. It counts as an intimidate attacker or as removal depending on the situation. I have 3 of these in my deck and they are very useful. Deserves a better rating.
